FAQ
Common questions
What is chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a regulated health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of problems of the joints, muscles and nerves, and how they affect your general health. Australian chiropractors complete at least five years of university training and are registered nationally through the Chiropractic Board of Australia and Ahpra.
What happens at my first visit?
We talk through your history and what matters to you, then carry out a physical assessment and, where it’s relevant, a neurological one. We explain what we find and agree on a plan with you. Follow-up visits are usually shorter.
Where is Johnson Chiropractic?
10 Main North Rd, Gawler SA 5118, between the Willaston bridge and railway, next to Gawler Stock Feeds. We’re across the road from the caravan park and share the space we call Health House. Map and directions.
When are you open?
Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:30 am to 6:00 pm. Closed Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
How do I book an appointment?
Book online at any time (there are separate links for new and existing patients), or call (08) 8522 1991 during opening hours. If you can’t find a time that suits online, call us: we can sometimes fit you in at a time the booking system doesn’t offer.
Do I need a referral to see the chiropractor?
No. You can book directly without a referral. You’ll need a referral from your GP for visits under a Medicare GP management plan or through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA).
What does Johnson Chiropractic help with?
We provide patient education, rehabilitation, hands-on manual therapy and neuro-rehab. Spinal care covers neck pain, back pain and headaches. Whole-body care covers shoulders, elbows, wrists and hands, hips, knees, ankles and feet, including bursitis and rotator cuff dysfunction. Neuro-rehab covers migraine, dizziness and balance, positional vertigo and persistent concussion symptoms. We also provide tailored solutions for fall prevention, return to gym, return to work and return to sport. More on what we assess and work with.
What is neuro-rehab?
Neuro-rehab is rehabilitation that works on how the nervous system controls balance, eye movements and coordination. It starts with an assessment, which can include an appropriate neurological examination, balance testing and eye movement recordings, and can include vestibular rehabilitation and exercises to do in the clinic and at home.
Can I claim on private health insurance, Medicare, DVA or the NDIS?
Yes. Private health fund rebates can be claimed on the spot with HICAPS. We also accept Medicare GP management plan referrals (previously called EPC or CDM plans), DVA, NDIS and WorkCover, as well as EFTPOS, cards and cash.
Do you see children?
Yes. We see all ages, from babies to older adults, adapting care to age, size and stage of life. We don’t use spinal manipulation on children under two. We explain findings and options, involve your GP or paediatrician when needed, and have a parent or guardian at every child’s visit. Families can go into treatment together, and there’s a play area in the waiting room. More on family care.
What does DACNB mean?
DACNB stands for Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Neurology Board. It is a US postgraduate qualification held by our chiropractor, Will Johnson. It is not a recognised specialty in Australia, and Will is not a medical neurologist.
